For our most recent blog, Emma and her partner Justin married at the beautiful Old Luxters Barn in Hambledon surrounded by family and friends. Emma’s stunning Joyce Jackson veil complimented her Nicola Anne gown perfectly, allowing for some creative photography.
How did you and your partner meet?
On a “notorious dating app” as my husband described it in his wedding speech! We were both pushed on to it by our friends but neither of us had any real expectation of meeting a partner on there. We started chatting, met up and have been together ever since. We were very lucky as we were each other’s first and only Tinder date!
Tell us all about your proposal – where, when and how?
We had discussed marriage before getting engaged and I mentioned to Justin that I would like to be proposed to at home. Neither of us would have been comfortable with it taking place in public and so when he popped the question in January 2019, that is exactly where it happened. It was extra special as we’d only recently bought a new house together and it really helped to cement our home as a happy place for us. I love the fact that every day I have a reminder of that special moment and our much-loved cat, Bowser, got to witness it too!
When and where did you get married?
We were married on 5th May 2019 at the beautiful Old Luxters Barn in Hambledon, Henley.
Did you have a specific theme or colour scheme?
Old Luxters Barn is stunning and so we wanted our plans to be in keeping with its rustic style and to enhance, rather than cover, it’s natural beauty. We kept the colours to a springtime palette of dusky pinks and creams with hints of pastel blues and lilacs. We had lots of foliage, candles and fairy lights too and it really did look incredible on the day.
How did you feel when you said yes to the dress?
I bought my dress from the wonderful White Lace and Butterflies in Great Missenden. By this point, I had tried on many dresses and was starting to get very confused about what it was I wanted. Everything was ‘nice’ but nothing felt particularly special.
One of the owners, Amy, actually suggested I try on my Nicola Anne gown and I fell in love with it immediately. I definitely had that moment where I knew it was ‘the one’. I felt so confident in it and I could envisage myself walking down the aisle the dress. Thankfully, my mum and Maid of Honour thought the same and we all got a little emotional!
How did you choose your veil?
Again, full credit must go to Amy for the choosing of my veil! I knew I wanted a long one and she chose perfectly. The tulle is so soft and the floral edging complimented the lace on my dress perfectly. Trying it on with the dress was the moment when I properly felt like a bride. It was a dream to wear on the day as it was so light I didn’t even notice I was wearing it most of the time. One of my favourite wedding pictures is of my veil blowing in the wind!
What was your most favourite and memorable part of the day?
We both absolutely loved the entire ceremony, but the best part was when we were officially declared husband and wife. It was an incredible moment and amazing to feel surrounded by so much love and happiness. We have a wonderful picture that was taken just after our first kiss as husband and wife and you can see the joy in our faces. We will treasure that memory forever.
Do you have any advice for brides to be?
Try to enjoy every moment of being engaged and the wedding planning process. I spent a lot of time wishing the wedding would come along quicker but now it’s all over, I wish I had savoured every moment a bit more.
Keep an open mind when it comes wedding dresses and try on lots of different styles.
Many people will have an opinion on your wedding plans and some may not share your views or react in the way you would like which can make you second guess your choices. Only tell those closest to you about the finer details as it’s your day and your choice; you shouldn’t be disheartened by other people’s differing views.
